Club Status

Dear readers,

Here is your monthly update regarding the non-fiction, ongoing saga known as

When we last left our merry band of NJTC members their battle against COVID was raging on. COVID had dealt a blow to the club by forcing them to cancel their beloved Keystone trip. However, this setback did not dampen the club’s spirits as they continued to enjoy the fruits of 18+ Intra Club play.  In fact they are still reveling in this improvised league with playoffs to be held next week, and finals the week after.  COVID cannot prevent champions being named at each participating NTRP level.

Frustrated that NJTC is remaining strong and resilient, COVID increased its force and attacked aggressively again.  Palooza 2020 being the recent casualty, unfortunately.  No matter how hard NJTC tried to resuscitate the event, the excitement, camaraderie, and pure joy was drained out of it.  COVID is proving to be unpredictable and formidable but NJTC will ultimately prevail by keeping its members safe and out of harms way.

Not to be deterred, while some are participating in the USTA second season, many NJTC members will play their second round of Intra Club (IC)…. this time for Twilight.  Surely it will not please COVID that they are turning IC Twilight to their advantage by offering all teams Home matches under lights in the increasing darkness, and will be conducting 4 lines of play verse 3, giving more people the chance to escape the isolating and depressing grip of COVID.

In the coming months this chapter and book will close. However, know this is not the last volume in the series as COVID will most likely not yet be defeated (spoiler alert). After a much needed rest, next year we shall start anew. Sadly, some of the main characters will not be returning for the sequel. There are some in the NJTC upper ranks who will hang up their shield in January. Exactly which positions will be open is intel for September, but I just wanted to give you a teaser to get you thinking about how you might contribute to this elite team leading the charge to ensure NJTC remains strong, influential, and most importantly, entertaining.

Until then, do what you can to help defeat COVID while staying healthy and safe!

Update on reopening tennis courts

Update regarding reopening of Arvada City Tennis Courts and the Apex Tennis Center

With the ATC reopening on Saturday, many have asked me when the city courts will be unlocked and open for play.  Knowing that the City of Arvada has extended their facility closure till May 30th, I sent an email asking for clarification regarding the reopening of tennis courts specifically.  Their response is as follows:

Hi, Jennifer. While our facilities closure is currently in place until May 30, our City recovery team is currently exploring ways to lift the restrictions on some recreational activities, including tennis courts, sooner. We will provide updates here: I will include your request in the citizen request log, which helps leadership consider the needs of our residents. Thanks for reaching out. If we can be of further assistance, let us know. Be well. Cindy

I responded back to Cindy with a plea, on behalf of all tennis players in Arvada, that the courts be opened sooner than later. After sending that plea I received very good news from the ATC regarding their position on masked play, which I know has been a concern for some players. Apex has amended their language on this subject to read:

To help ensure the safety of ATC staff and the community, masks are required when entering or exiting the facility.  All players are encouraged to wear a face mask (including while playing) on the indoor and outdoor courts.

It should be expected that we all wear masks when entering or exiting the facility for the safety of the staff. However the language has now softened regarding masks while playing.  If you feel more comfortable wearing a mask while playing, please do so!!!, but it is no longer “required”.

Hope to see you all out on the court soon. I’m booking my court for next week shortly!!!

Do what you can to stay active while doing what you must to stay safe,

Hello NJTC Members,

If you reside in the Apex Park and Rec District you have most likely received information regarding the opening of the Arvada Tennis Center. If you missed it, or if you live outside the District, I have included a link here which will give you a plethora of information regarding new policy and procedures which will be enforced once they open on May 9th.  As time goes on and our health forecast improves, I hope that some of these precautions will be eased, but for now all players at the ATC must abide.

I don’t have an update on other Arvada city courts other than they seem to mirror the Jefferson County Stay-at-Home order which has been extended through May 8.

As you know USTA league play has been suspended through May 31st.  We remain hopeful that play will resume before June 7th, in which case we will be able to play most leagues in two “Seasons”.

First Season
USTA Mixed 18 & Over
USTA Adult 18 & Over  **
USTA Adult 55 & Over
CTA Women’s Daytime Doubles
**NOTE: The Roster Deadline for USTA Adult 18 & Over is this Friday, May 1st

Second Season
ITA Mixed
CTA Twilight
CTA Adult 65 & Over
CTA Women’s Summer Daytime

Sure is an interesting time we live in!  Please stay healthy and we’ll get through this together.

2020 Club Memberships

Thanks to those who attended our Annual Meeting Saturday, January 25th, and thank YOU for reading this post:-). With 476 members last year and the potential for further growth this year, our Newsletters and website are two ways we keep everyone informed. And, with League season just around the corner there is news to share.

First, our annual memberships dues have changed a bit for league play in 2020.

Jen Stiebeling - NJTC President

Second, we are revamping the way we find league teams for those who are looking. By clicking here or by scanning the QR code displayed on our Bulletin Board at the ATC, you will be taken to a “I Need A Team” form. Once submitted, one of our Club Representatives will send your name to appropriate captains needing to add to their roster(s).

Club Rep’s will be working with players based on their NTRP rating. Should players or captains have pressing questions/requests, Club Rep contact information can be found in our newsletter.
