Update on reopening tennis courts

Update regarding reopening of Arvada City Tennis Courts and the Apex Tennis Center

With the ATC reopening on Saturday, many have asked me when the city courts will be unlocked and open for play.  Knowing that the City of Arvada has extended their facility closure till May 30th, I sent an email asking for clarification regarding the reopening of tennis courts specifically.  Their response is as follows:

Hi, Jennifer. While our facilities closure is currently in place until May 30, our City recovery team is currently exploring ways to lift the restrictions on some recreational activities, including tennis courts, sooner. We will provide updates here: https://arvada.org/residents/resilient-arvada/coronavirus-covid-19/city-services-update-covid-19. I will include your request in the citizen request log, which helps leadership consider the needs of our residents. Thanks for reaching out. If we can be of further assistance, let us know. Be well. Cindy

I responded back to Cindy with a plea, on behalf of all tennis players in Arvada, that the courts be opened sooner than later. After sending that plea I received very good news from the ATC regarding their position on masked play, which I know has been a concern for some players. Apex has amended their language on this subject to read:

To help ensure the safety of ATC staff and the community, masks are required when entering or exiting the facility.  All players are encouraged to wear a face mask (including while playing) on the indoor and outdoor courts.

It should be expected that we all wear masks when entering or exiting the facility for the safety of the staff. However the language has now softened regarding masks while playing.  If you feel more comfortable wearing a mask while playing, please do so!!!, but it is no longer “required”.

Hope to see you all out on the court soon. I’m booking my court for next week shortly!!!

Do what you can to stay active while doing what you must to stay safe,

Apex Closure

Hello everyone,

If you do not live in the Apex Park and Rec District you may not know that all Apex facilities will close starting tomorrow through April 30th. This means no tennis at the Apex Tennis Center until April 30th. We will keep you updated with any information we receive, but in the meantime know that:
* The ATC has contacted those who had upcoming court reservations.
* Holders of Permanent Court Time will be contacted by the ATC regarding any refunds or credits.
* Players who have signed up for our March Social on Saturday March 21st will be refunded.
* Regarding league play.
USTA National has decided to suspend all USTA-sanctioned events through April 20 due to the coronavirus pandemic. This means:
    –  CTA Trio is cancelled for 2020. All registered players will receive a full refund. The process for this refund is still TBD.
    –  USTA Mixed 18 & Over. Since the suspension of league play affects 3 out of 7 weeks, the league will be shortened to a 4-5 week session. All registered teams/players have the option to opt-out of the league and receive a full refund. Team captains will be emailed directly to see if they would like to be scheduled in the league or receive a full refund. Captains must reply to taylor@coloradotennis.com by March 17th.
    –  USTA Adult 18 & Over.  Currently, the suspension only impacts one day of the league season (April 20 – June 4). Since this league takes 3 – 4 weeks to schedule, the only option is to continue to schedule the league under the assumption that league play will resume April 21 and teams will get a 6-7 week season. All registered teams/players have the option to opt-out of the league and receive a full refund. Team captains will be emailed directly to see if they would like to be scheduled in the league or receive a full refund. Captains must reply to taylor@coloardotennis.com by 3/20.  Matches that would initially be scheduled on 4/20 will be considered a floating match.
    –  USTA Adult 55 & Over and CTA Women’s Daytime Doubles.  Decisions are still being made regarding these leagues. At this time the minimum roster deadline will continue to be April 3. If teams decide not to play due to the uncertainty of the pandemic, they can be issued a full refund.
This certainly isn’t the way we want to kick off the tennis session, but everyone’s health is paramount.  I hope this emergency subsides quickly so we can get back to our daily routines, including lots of court time.  Until then, continue to do what you can to keep yourself and your family happy and healthy.
Take care,
Jen Stiebeling

Permanent Court Time

When:  Friday, October 12, 6:00-9:00 p.m.

Where:  Indian Tree Golf Course Clubhouse, 7555 Wadsworth

Why:  The word is out that the Apex Tennis Center is the place to be! Be a part of the action by securing 30 weeks of permanent court time for the 2019 season. This consists of two 15-week sessions: Jan-Apr. and Sep.-Dec. This year, the lottery is open to all players, regardless of residency status!

  • It’s guaranteed. Permanent court time gives you a regular time to play. The court is yours…no phone call or checking online to see if a court might be available.
  • It’s convenient. You select your day and time, whether it be an hour and a half or two hours. Plan for the entire indoor season.
  • It’s your group. Once you have secured your time slot, invite your friends, teammates, family, or tennis nemesis to join you for a session, or all season.
  • It’s flexible. If your schedule changes, you can sell or give away your court time. It’s prepaid, so it’s yours to do what you’d like with.
  • It’s social. The Apex Tennis Center is a gathering place for tennis enthusiasts. Be a part of the fun!
  • It’s affordable. Not charging membership fees or guest fees reduces costs for all players. A true pay-to-play model.

  • You must be present to select PCT.
  • The lottery is available to all players, regardless of residency status.
  • One entry per person, maximum 2 per household. The intention of the lottery is to give all individuals and groups an equitable opportunity to receive permanent court time. All entrants and staff are expected to act in good faith to uphold the spirit of the PCT lottery.
  • Check-in and registration begin at 6pm. Appetizers and non-alcoholic beverages provided. Cash bar.
  • Drawing and time slot selection will begin for Apex residents at 7pm and continue until all residents have had the opportunity to select a time slot. Non-resident selection will commence at 8pm and continue until all participants have selected, or until all available slots have been chosen.
  • If your name is drawn, you will have 1 minute to select from the available time slots.
  • Time slots are available in 1.5 hours or 2-hour increments.
  • Your slot is good for the entire 2019 indoor season only…payment for all 30 weeks is required. We will not be grandfathering times, they will be reset for the 2020 season.
  • Once you’ve selected your slot, a $100 non-refundable credit card, check, or cash deposit secures your PCT…this will be applied towards your first 15-week balance. Full payment for the first 15-week period (Jan.-Apr.) is due by December 15.
  • As a courtesy to our players, payment for the second 15 weeks (Sep.-Dec.) will not be due until August 15, 2019.

ATC Opening Date – updated

Apex Tennis Center Update

from Michele Crouse

Happy New Year! The excitement continues as we get closer to opening the new center. There have been several delays along the project timeline with the Excel Energy delay being the most impactful. As soon as gas and electricity are functional, the court playing surface will be installed. Staff, furniture, work stations, tennis supplies and the like can be brought into the ATC once the facility has passed inspection and the certificate of occupancy is received from the City of Arvada.

At this juncture, we anticipate  the Grand Opening on Saturday, Feb. 17th, from 3pm – 6pm, check out this APEX web page for more information.

If you have concerns, questions, or comments please reach out to Michele or Brent, at brenta@apexprd.org. We value your commitment and dedication to tennis in the Arvada area and are doing our absolute best to get the Apex Tennis Center open as soon as possible.
