Tennis Update

Good morning,

Here are a couple of updates in case you are not aware:

1) The Apex Tennis center has extended their closure through April 30th.  All refunds and questions about Permanent Court Time are handled by Apex, not NJTC. Players are using other outside public courts which may be busy on nice days. Surely everyone is adhering to “social distancing” as much as possible and taking precautions, even during play.

2) The Colorado USTA has an update below.  As you’ll read, the situation is very fluid.  Fee’s paid for a specific league can be refunded or moved to a different league.   Remember, if you move your fee from one league to another the whole amount is applied.  If you ask for a refund, your money will be returned to you minus the $3 processing fee. Our league coordinators Jess Mitchell (evening leagues) and Laura Pivovar (daytime leagues) can submit those requests for you. Refunds will not be issued until each league is either canceled or played. Refunds for Trio, which was canceled completely, will be handled in the near future, no exact date. I’d recommend being patient if requesting a refund. USTA has their hands full right now. They will make everyone whole in the end.

We’ll send out blasts with further updates from COUSTA whenever we receive them. In the meantime, please continue to do what you can to keep yourself, your family, and the general public safe and healthy.

Take care,

Jen Stiebeling

Message from USTA

Hello everyone,

USTA National issued a statement today to all USTA Members that due to COVID-19, the USTA has decided to suspend all USTA-sanctioned leagues and local tournaments through May 3. In Colorado, the majority of tennis facilities have closures that extend beyond May 3 due to State, City, County or other official mandates. These suspensions obviously have an impact on the entire industry, including our USTA Colorado League programs. The waters we’re all trying to navigate can change (and often do).  USTA Colorado will work through this in a thoughtful and prudent manner – collaborating with players, captains and providers alike.  Our goal is to provide players the opportunity to play in our league programs.  We will do our best to keep you informed and are sending you this update with the most current information available at this time. As this is a fluid situation with changes happening daily, there could be additional changes depending on a variety of external factors. Please see below for more details.

USTA Mixed 18 & Over

League remains suspended (on hold) indefinitely, until we have a better idea of when play will be able to resume.

USTA Adult 18 & Over

Since many facilities are closed well into May, this league is on hold until we have a better idea of when play will be able to resume. We are evaluating all options and will provide more information when it becomes available.  Unless things change with Sectional dates (which are being reviewed), this league would have to have an abbreviated season.

CTA Daytime Doubles

The Minimum Roster Requirement Deadline has been extended to April 10. We are planning to start the league season two weeks later than published, on May 26, and will hopefully be able to provide players with a 6-7 week league season. Since it takes multiple weeks to schedule, there is a chance that changes will have to be made to the league season while in the process of scheduling the league.  Please have the minimum number of players registered by the deadline if you would like to participate in this league, knowing that further modifications may become necessary.  We will not have the ability to remove teams once the scheduling process has begun, so if your entire team does not want to commit to play, please send an email to Taylor McKinley by April 10.  If any individual players do not want to commit to play, please submit a move or deletion request by April 10.

USTA Adult 55 & Over

The Minimum Roster Requirement Deadline has been extended to April 10. We are planning to start the league season two weeks later than published, on May 27, and will hopefully be able to provide players with a 6-7 week league season.

Wishing you all good health!

Thanks,

Apex Closure

Hello everyone,

If you do not live in the Apex Park and Rec District you may not know that all Apex facilities will close starting tomorrow through April 30th. This means no tennis at the Apex Tennis Center until April 30th. We will keep you updated with any information we receive, but in the meantime know that:

* The ATC has contacted those who had upcoming court reservations.
* Holders of Permanent Court Time will be contacted by the ATC regarding any refunds or credits.

* Players who have signed up for our March Social on Saturday March 21st will be refunded.

* Regarding league play.

USTA National has decided to suspend all USTA-sanctioned events through April 20 due to the coronavirus pandemic. This means:

    –  CTA Trio is cancelled for 2020. All registered players will receive a full refund. The process for this refund is still TBD.

    –  USTA Mixed 18 & Over. Since the suspension of league play affects 3 out of 7 weeks, the league will be shortened to a 4-5 week session. All registered teams/players have the option to opt-out of the league and receive a full refund. Team captains will be emailed directly to see if they would like to be scheduled in the league or receive a full refund. Captains must reply to taylor@coloradotennis.com by March 17th.

    –  USTA Adult 18 & Over.  Currently, the suspension only impacts one day of the league season (April 20 – June 4). Since this league takes 3 – 4 weeks to schedule, the only option is to continue to schedule the league under the assumption that league play will resume April 21 and teams will get a 6-7 week season. All registered teams/players have the option to opt-out of the league and receive a full refund. Team captains will be emailed directly to see if they would like to be scheduled in the league or receive a full refund. Captains must reply to taylor@coloardotennis.com by 3/20.  Matches that would initially be scheduled on 4/20 will be considered a floating match.

    –  USTA Adult 55 & Over and CTA Women’s Daytime Doubles.  Decisions are still being made regarding these leagues. At this time the minimum roster deadline will continue to be April 3. If teams decide not to play due to the uncertainty of the pandemic, they can be issued a full refund.

This certainly isn’t the way we want to kick off the tennis session, but everyone’s health is paramount.  I hope this emergency subsides quickly so we can get back to our daily routines, including lots of court time.  Until then, continue to do what you can to keep yourself and your family happy and healthy.

Take care,
Jen Stiebeling

2020 Club Memberships

Thanks to those who attended our Annual Meeting Saturday, January 25th, and thank YOU for reading this post:-). With 476 members last year and the potential for further growth this year, our Newsletters and website are two ways we keep everyone informed. And, with League season just around the corner there is news to share.

First, our annual memberships dues have changed a bit for league play in 2020.

Second, we are revamping the way we find league teams for those who are looking. By clicking here or by scanning the QR code displayed on our Bulletin Board at the ATC, you will be taken to a “I Need A Team” form. Once submitted, one of our Club Representatives will send your name to appropriate captains needing to add to their roster(s).

Club Rep’s will be working with players based on their NTRP rating. Should players or captains have pressing questions/requests, Club Rep contact information can be found in our newsletter.

2020 Annual Meeting

Hello Tennis Family!

Just a reminder that our Annual Meeting is just around the corner. NJTC continues to grow and your Board would like to share what they are doing to help keep members informed and engaged. A majority of us spend many hours on the court over the course of the year, but just 60 minutes on Saturday is all it takes to show your support for all NJTC does for league play and beyond.

In addition to raffling off 5 full memberships, we will also be bringing in salads and sandwiches from Jersey Mikes.  If you could kindly RSVP below so we have an accurate count for food we’d greatly appreciate it.

Hope to see you Saturday,
Jen Stiebeling

New Year's Eve Social

Halloween Tennis Social Fun

What a fun time sharing food and drink with tennis friends.  Kevin organized another great tennis social at the ATC.  Apex generously donated prizes for the best costumed players.

Palooza 2019

Tennis Palooza 2019 was a fantastic event and the pictures that follow will prove it! By the numbers: over 4 days we had 178 entries between 139 players, 14 raffle prizes, 5 breweries, 3 food trucks, 2 clothing vendors, 2 50/50 raffle winners, 2 nights of live music and a whole lot of fun!! The weather was nice and everyone seemed to enjoy themselves. We collected many racquets for the Colorado Youth Tennis Foundation Racquets for All program and about 100 pairs of shoes for the Soles4Souls charity. It’s heartwarming (and much appreciated) that so many participants donated to those who are considered less fortunate.
